Comic to put on benefit show

HAMPDEN – The Community Church of the Open Door invites the public to join in and laugh for a cause when it sponsors the nationally known stand-up comedian Thor Ramsey for a one-time-only performance at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Reeds Brook Middle School.

Ramsey has appeared in “Evening at Improv” and on A&E Television. The show is appropriate for the entire family.

The event will benefit Tommy Mousseau, 14, who has muscular dystrophy and needs a customized wheelchair-accessible van. The Mousseau family needs the van in order to keep Tommy connected to the community and to allow the family to travel together.

Currently, the Brewer Middle School pupil cannot bear his own weight and his father must lift him into the family vehicle, but that is becoming increasingly difficult and often means that Tommy must stay at home with a caregiver. It also means that when he does travel, he has to use a collapsible wheelchair instead of his motorized chair, which takes away his independence.

Tickets to the show are $16 for adults, $12 for students, and are available at Lamb’s Book and Bible Store in Bangor; and at Schacht’s Hardware, Church of the Open Door and Edwards’ Supermarket in Hampden. Tickets will be $20 for adults, $16 for students the day of the show.
