In the kitchen with Cheryl

What’s cooking? Quite a bit at Cheryl Wixson’s kitchen. The Bangor-based chef kicks off December with a tour of Appleton Creamery, followed by a food-centric jaunt to Belfast. The road trip begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Wixson expects to return by midafternoon. Cost is $10 per person, plus lunch, and space is limited. Wixson, who is known for her homemade holiday treats, also will offer a “Gifts from Your Kitchen” class at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. Students will prepare, package and take home some of Wixson’s holiday favorites, including Merry Christmas Coffee Cakes; Decorated Cheese Balls, Spicy Dipping Oil and French Baguette; and Candy Cane Bark. The class costs $75 per person, including all materials. Wixson also offers Christmas Cookie classes for children. Call 947-0892 for information or to reserve your space in class.

Bugaboo bounty

Have your steak and eat it too – all the while helping a good cause. Bugaboo Creek steakhouse in Bangor is sponsoring a food drive for Manna Ministries. Customers are asked to bring nonperishable food items to the restaurant, located at 24 Bangor Mall Blvd., now through Dec. 22.

Calling all cookie monsters

Craving a sugar rush? The Inn at Camden Place can help. From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, the inn will hold a holiday cookie decorating party for children of all ages. Cookies, decorations, cold milk, hot cocoa and warm cider are on the menu. The inn is located at 14 Tannery Lane in Camden.
