Food drive

BANGOR – Local Hannaford stores participated in the Donate a Bag-Donate a Meal program to provide Maine families in need with a Thanksgiving meal. The program, now in its third year, gave customers an opportunity to purchase all the fixings for a traditional holiday meal. The purchased food was donated to local food pantries and soup kitchens, which donated the food to area households.

Agencies receiving the Donate a Bag-Donate a Meal food items were Brewer Christian Food Cupboard, Bucksport Community Concerns, Crossroads Ministries Food Pantry in Old Town, Good Shepherd Food Bank in Brewer, Manna Inc. Food Pantry in Bangor, and the Shaw House in Bangor.

New tack shop

BANGOR – Sheila Griffin announced the opening of her new business, Hoof ‘N It Tack Shop at 955 Union St. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Nov. 24.

The store specializes in products for equestrians and their horses, including tack and feed, horse-care products, gift items, consignment and in-store embroidery services. Store hours are 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Business breakfast

BANGOR – M. Michelle Hood, president and CEO of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, will be the speaker at a business breakfast at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Husson College. Her topic will be “Challenges of Today’s Healthcare Environment and What’s Happening at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems.”

Bank employee donations

BANGOR – Bangor Savings Bank Senior Vice President Yellow Light Breen, representing the bank’s 600 employees, delivered a check for $1,500 for Manna Ministries to local radio talk show hosts Mike and Mike. The contribution signifies the bank’s commitment to the hungry and needy during the holiday season. The check is a match for the amount bank employees donated, making a total contribution of $3,000.

Bangor Saving’s employees regularly donate $5 for the opportunity to wear jeans to work and have donated a total of more than $12,000 to eight employee-nominated charities so far this year. Recipients include the American Heart Association, Good Shepherd Food Bank, Special Olympics and Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Employees statewide also pledged $86,000 this fall to United Way. And over the last few months, the bank has made $5,000 contributions each to Good Shepherd Food Bank, Crossroads Ministries in Old Town and The Salvation Army.
