UMaine’s King, Arias garner all-star accolades UNH’s Clark nets 1,000th career point

Seniors Matt King and Manauris Arias of the University of Maine have been named to the New England Football Writers Division I-AA All-Star Team.

The honor follows last week’s All-Atlantic 10 first-team accolades for both players.

King, who also is one of 16 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award given to the best defensive player in I-AA, led the conference with 10 sacks (1.05 per game) and tackles for a loss (18.0). The defensive end ranked second and sixth, respectively, in those categories in the national rankings.

King, of Stoughton, Mass., registered at least one tackle for a loss in each of the Black Bears’ 11 games this season.

Arias, a cornerback from Union City, N.J., was named All-New England after a season during which he made 30 tackles, including three for a loss. He also broke up two passes and made an interception.

Arias and King will be recognized Dec. 14 at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet at Casa di Fiot in Wilmington, Mass.
