In the Dec. 1 BDN, the article about Anthony Tucker has made me so angry that I have to respond.
A dear friend of mine was a victim of domestic abuse for many years. Her weekly black eyes and fat lips seemed to be part of the norm for her. Until one day, when she’d had enough and had him arrested. Thank God there were no children involved.
On the other hand, another friend of mine who is a prosecuting attorney for victims of domestic abuse paints another story, the one very familiar to April Cooley’s. The victim refuses to prosecute and the charges are dropped. This story is so familiar with domestic abuse that it sickens me to think that a woman would jeopardize her child’s life because of her own personal weaknesses.
There are enough agencies in the community so that what happened to Anthony Tucker should never happen again. Mr. Curry is not the only one at fault. I would like to know when the mothers of these victims are going to be held responsible for their actions? When a mother jeopardizes her child’s life, she, too, should be held responsible for her actions.
