Marble, Ross lead Southern Maine past UNE

GORHAM – Ashley Marble tallied 22 points, five rebounds and three steals as the University of Southern Maine rolled to a 77-55 women’s basketball victory over the University of New England Tuesday night.

Dawn Ross scored 13 points off the bench and Stacey Kent chipped in 12 and eight rebounds for the Huskies.

Alli Gamache netted 16 points for the Nor’easters of Biddeford.

Jonathan Hill chipped in with 10 points for UMaine-Augusta.

Shawn Lay paced Northern Maine Community College with 18 points, while Jason Woodworth scored 13, Brooks Brewer added 12 and Aaron Wasson finished with 10.

At Gorham, the University of Southern hit 51 percent of its shots and held the University of New England to a 31 percent effort en route to the victory.

Charlie O’Neill paced the winners with 19 points and Josh Daniels added 18 points and six assists.

Isaac Stickney led UNE with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tom Button grabbed 10 rebounds and Steve Belmonte had eight assists.
