Barnett FTs lift Stearns by GSA

BLUE HILL – Cory Barnett made three free throws in the final minute to lead Stearns of Millinocket to a 41-38 high school boys basketball victory over George Stevens Academy Friday.

Barnett led the Minutemen with 13 points and Jayson Chase added nine points.

Jared Gordon scored 19 points for the Eagles.

Corey DeWitt paced Ellsworth with a game-high 25 points and scored the 1,000th point of his career. Demetrios Katsiaficas added 16 points for the Eagles.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Sean Babin had three goals and two assists and Jared Bussell and David Eugley combined to make 15 saves as the Red Riots earned the shutout victory.

Tony Raymond added two goals and an assist for 1-1-1 Orono, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period, while Chris McConnon had one goal and three assists. Jordan Dudley and Nathan Curtis each chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Dan Ohno also scored for the Red Riots.

Dan LeBreton made 26 saves for 1-1 Old Town.

At Fairfield, Amy Hackett hit a jump shot with the game tied at 40-40 with 45 seconds left to lead Bangor past Lawrence.
