Tidbits

For the dogs

This Christmas, treat yourself and your pets to something sweet – and help the Bangor Humane Society at the same time. Epi Sub and Pizza on Main Street in Bangor will sell its traditional gingerbread people ($1 each) and dog biscuits in peanut butter, oatmeal and gingerbread flavors, which are available plain or decorated with dog-safe white chocolate (two for $1). The treats and cookies are available through Dec. 24, and all proceeds will benefit the Bangor Humane Society. For information, call 942-3888.

Holiday cheer

They’ll be home for Christmas – thanks to Bugaboo Creek. Bob and Marsha Reny of North Berwick won the restaurant’s “Come Home for the Holidays” sweepstakes, and they were given $1,500 to use toward travel expenses and holiday gifts. The Renys said they plan to bring their children, Mandy, 22, Erica, 25, Kristine, 31, and Karen, 36, home to North Berwick for Christmas. Mandy is a senior at the University of Maine where she is pursuing a degree in nursing. “It has been many years since our four daughters and their families have been home for the holidays,” said Bob Reny. “When we found out that we won, we were absolutely astounded and overjoyed. We immediately began to put the wheels in motion to get everyone home.”

Sparkling sippers

Feeling festive? Toast your holiday guests with a Poinsettia. In a chilled champagne flute, add 4 ounces cranberry juice and 4 ounces Ballatore Rosso Spumante. Top off with 1/2 ounce orange liqueur and garnish a mint leaf and fresh cranberries.
