Belfast to mark death of Elvis at Bearfest

BELFAST – The Belfast Bearfest will commemorate the 24th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley by honoring the Elvis-inspired bear, “He’ll always be my teddy bear,” created by Courtney Porter.

On Thursday, the Elvis bear, with its costume fit for a king, will be moved from his stage in the window of Darby’s Restaurant, 155 High St., and installed on a candle-lighted shrine across the street at Belfast City Hall.

Elvis impersonators will be on hand for the occasion, and local entrepreneur Country Rose Langille will produce an Elvis karaoke show for all who want to sing along with the king. An All-Elvis-All-The-Time disc jockey will spin tunes. The public will be invited to light candles as part of the memorial.

Hot rods and vintage cars are welcome, and those who love Elvis should plan on being in Belfast at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, for the ceremony.
