ROCKLAND – A city snowplow driver escaped injury when his truck skidded off an icy road and landed on its side during Saturday’s storm.
Deputy Police Chief Wallace Tower said public works employee William Rytky, 62, of Rockland was plowing Thompson Road when his 2001 GMC dump truck left the road and rolled onto its side.
Tower said driving on Thompson Road, a dirt road between West Meadow Road and Old County Road, was treacherous at the time and that Rytky was heading down a steep hill. The truck rolled over when the rear wheels skidded into a ditch and it tipped onto its right side. Rytky was uninjured in the incident, which happened at 2:45 p.m. Damage to the truck was estimated at $3,000.
