Redington wind power project facts

Sizing it up

. 30 turbines; 12 on Redington Mountain, 18 on Black Nubble Mountain.

. Towers 262 feet tall, blades 144 feet, height from base to tip of blade 410 feet.

Location

. Redington Township, Franklin County.

. 2.9 miles west of Sugarloaf/USA ski resort in Carrabassett Valley.

. Appalachian Trail one mile away at closest point.

Construction

. All phases one year; construction about 190 days.

. Total of 8.5 miles of ridge-line roads, 12 feet wide and requiring 90-foot clearing.

. Total area to be cleared 307 acres; 85 acres permanently altered above 2,700-foot elevation.

Capacity

. 260,000 megawatt hours a year, or 2.2 percent of Maine’s power consumption.
