Houghton free throws lift Lee to win

LEE – Dana Houghton hit two free throws with 1:06 remaining to give Lee Academy the lead for good as the Pandas held off Woodland 56-53 in schoolgirl basketball action Friday night.

Aarika Ritchie led the way with 19 points, and Amanda Gifford and Karin Bird chipped in 15 points apiece for the winners.

Courtney Cochran poured in a game-high 25 points for the Dragons. Katie Murphy tallied 11 and Rachel Torrey added 10.

At Corinth on Thursday night, Luke Knapp banked in a 3-point goal from just inside the midcourt line to lift Penquis of Milo past Central.

Penquis got the ball with 51/2 seconds left after a missed Central free throw. Knapp brought the ball up court, crossed the midcourt line and launched a straight-on shot that caromed off the backboard and through the net as time expired.

Kole Stevens led Penquis with 13 points.
