Employees at the Sears store in the Bangor Mall saw a woman with a baby stroller remove several items from a display, then enter a changing room Saturday afternoon. When the woman left the changing room, she allegedly was concealing items she did not own. Police said she tried to leave the store but was stopped outside by security.
Caron Shasheana, 29, of Caribou was caught with $325 worth of items, including two DVDs, four pairs of pants, perfume, three infant’s outfits, work gloves, two nine-piece tool sets, micro pliers and a screwdriver, according to police. Shasheana was summoned for theft and will face a judge in Bangor District Court on March 1.
A woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly stole clothing from Wal-Mart on Springer Drive. Wal-Mart loss prevention officer John York told Bangor police that Michelle Brooks had been in the store Friday and placed several items in a shopping bag that she pulled from her purse. She did not leave the store with them. On Monday, however, she went back to the store with her 4-year-old daughter and put clothing into shopping bags, which she then placed in the bottom of her cart, according to police.
She continued to shop and purchased other items but did not pay for the clothes. When York approached her outside the store she agreed to go back inside. York called the police.
Brooks admitted to stealing the clothes, police said. She also said that she had been arrested for theft before and that Florida had an outstanding arrest warrant on her for theft.
Because a 4-year-old was present, the case also will be referred to the Department of Health and Human Services, where Brooks told police she already has an open case.
She was arrested and charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. She is scheduled to appear at 3rd District Court on March 1.
