Hawks slip past MDI in overtime

BAR HARBOR – Ashley Kelley hit two free throws with 11.7 seconds left in overtime to lift the Hermon High girls basketball team past Mount Desert Island 57-55 Thursday night.

Hermon’s Kelley poured in a game-high 27 points, including an 11-for-12 effort at the free-throw line. The Hawks hit 16 of 20 foul shots overall. Hillary Keith chipped in with 10 points.

Lindsay Lewis paced MDI with 13 points while Kelsey Stratton and Amethyst Cousins each scored 11.

Cousins had eight rebounds, four steals, and nearly sent the game into double overtime when her basket just after the final buzzer was waved off. Susan Falt had seven rebounds, all in the first half before she got sick and was unable to play in the second.

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Chris Howland had a hat trick with three goals to lift Houlton-Hodgdon past Foxcroft Academy.

Chris McGuire had a goal and an assist for the 9-7 Blackhawks and Ashir Abouleish and Sam Carter both added a goal. Craig Buxton provided two assists while Morgan Hall, Jared Tapley, and Zach Chase each had an assist. Levi Ledger stopped 19 of 21 shots.

David White scored a goal and assisted the other for the 0-13-1 Ponies. Henry Obrey scored and Dan Moriarty provided an assist. Chad Phillips made 36 saves on 42 shots.

Boys basketball

At Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Collin Ciomei scored 15 points to lift Deer Isle-Stonington over Bangor Christian.

Brian Ciomei had 12 points for the Mariners. Jon Eaton and Shane Eaton scored 11 points apiece.
