ORONO – It was Seniors Day at the Alfond Arena on Sunday and four seniors figured prominently in leading the University of Maine to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Boston University.
BU had triumphed 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Maine is now 10-18-2 overall, 5-13-2 in Hockey East. BU is 19-11-3 and 9-8-2, respectively.
On Sunday, senior left wing Sonia Corriveau’s power play goal with 3:40 remaining, assisted by seniors Brigitte Laflamme and Kate Sunstrum, broke a 2-2 tie and senior goalie Rachel Gettings finished with 20 saves to backstop the triumph.
Corriveau’s goal came 3:48 after Jenna Ouellette had tied it for the Black Bears off a Vanessa Vani feed.
Pam Patterson staked Maine to a 1-0 lead while the Bears were shorthanded but Erin Seman’s power play goal tied it for BU and Melissa Anderson, who assisted on Seman’s goal, made it 2-1 in the second period.
Allyse Wilcox made 16 saves for BU.
On Saturday, Nicki Wiart scored the game-opening goal and assisted on Gina Kearns’ game-winner for the Terriers and Wilcox finished with 23 saves.
Laflamme converted a Kelly Law rebound for Maine’s goal and Genevieve Turgeon made 21 stops.
