McNamee claims title in girls cross country

State champions in high school skiing events were crowned on Monday in Classes B and C.

Big Rock in Mars Hill hosted the Class C state championships while Class B was held at Black Mountain in Rumford.

Hilary McNamee of Fort Fairfield won the girls individual championship in Class C cross country with a time of 16:14.67.

Cape Nordic of Cape Elizabeth’s Graham Egan won the Class B boys freestyle with a time of 13:42.3, while Molly Hallweaver of Yarmouth took the girls side (17:10.4).

In Class C, Sam Largess of Telstar won the girls giant slalom with a time of 1:28.26 and Waynflete of Portland’s Joel Walker had a time of 1:24.18, which was good enough for the victory.

Fourth-place finisher Joey Bard of Caribou was the top Class B Eastern Maine freestyle finisher with a time of 14:17.3. Presque Isle’s Corey Park had a time of 14:43.9 to place 10th. Erin Thomas of Presque Isle was 13th for the girls with a time of 19:16.8.

Central Aroostook of Mars Hill’s Brooke Smith was the top Eastern Maine girls finisher in the giant slalom. Her time of 1:31.97 was fourth best. Derek Smith, also of Central Aroostook, claimed second among the boys with a time of 1:26.15, and Fort Kent’s Carter Vaillancourt was close behind with a 1:26.71.

Nicholas Michaud of Fort Kent was runner-up in the boys cross country. He had a time of 15:04.78. Behind McNamee in the girls cross country, Mary Bernard of Fort Kent was fifth with a time of 18:00.81.
