MARS HILL – Derek Smith placed seventh in the boys slalom race Tuesday as host Central Aroostook nipped Fort Kent 60-61 in the Class C State Championships at Big Rock.
Fort Kent also finished second in the girls slalom race with 54 points, 30 points behind winner Telstar of Bethel.
Frankie Delduca of Telstar won the slalom event with a time of 1 minute, 15.39 seconds. Fort Kent’s Carter Vaillancourt was the top eastern Maine racer, finishing third in 1:15.87.
Telstar’s Sam Largess was victorious in the girls slalom with a time of 1:23.12, edging out Brooke Smith of Central Aroostook, who clocked a 1:23.58.
The Panthers won the boys combined Alpine over Fort Kent, 109-123. In the girls combined Alpine, Telstar defeated Fort Kent 35-123.
In Class B racing at Sunday River in Newry, Joseph Atwood of Fryeburg Academy won the giant slalom with a time of 1:20.66. Falmouth won the event with 23 points.
Bart Kallgren of Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield was the top eastern Maine finisher with a time of 1:22.45.
Kallgren was also the top eastern Maine finisher in the slalom race (1:15.88). Yarmouth beat Falmouth in that team competition.
Maranacook of Readfield’s Amy Gifford won the girls giant slalom (1:28.07) and the girls slalom (1:19:53).
Rebekah Kallgren of MCI placed highest of the eastern Maine finishers in both races. She had a time of 1:36.11 in the giant slalom and a 1:21.66 in the slalom.
Yarmouth won the giant slalom with 17 points and Maranacook took the slalom with 35 points.
Falmouth edged Yarmouth 90-91 in the boys combined Alpine while Yarmouth took the girls combined Alpine 70-76 over Maranacook.
