2 corrections officers remain in hospital

BANGOR – Two Penobscot County corrections officers injured in a Feb. 5 van crash remained hospitalized this week, officials said Thursday.

The van carrying a juvenile to court ran off the road in a snowdrift the morning of Feb. 5, striking a tree head-on and sending the two transport officers to the hospital with serious injuries.

As of Thursday, corrections transport officer Rosemary Kosobud had been upgraded to fair condition and Kevin Priest was listed in good condition, said a nursing supervisor at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Kosobud was driving the 2003 GMC van, accompanied by Priest, another corrections transport officer for the Sheriff’s Department, according to Chief Deputy Troy Morton.

The juvenile was uninjured.

Kosobud works part time for the Sheriff’s Department. Priest, a full-time corrections officer, has worked for the department for about 10 years, Morton said.
