WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services will provide more than $1 million in funding for Head Start programs in Aroostook County, U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced Tuesday.
“Head Start has a proven record of success in preparing children for school and we applaud the continued funding for these programs,” said Snowe and Collins in a joint statement.
“This funding will enable the Aroostook County Action Program – which manages Head Start for The County – to continue its important efforts to open opportunities for young people.”
The senators said the Aroostook County Action Program Inc. in Presque Isle will receive $1,046,140 in Head Start funding. Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that serves children from birth to age 5, as well as pregnant women and their families.
