Bangor resident Melissa Biehn is going to have her head shaved in public, and she invites you to do the same.
Biehn, who teaches pre-kindergarten in Hermon, is seeking volunteers to participate in a St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser, Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids’ Cancer, at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Sea Dog restaurant in Bangor.
Biehn has had a pupil with leukemia in her class, so when she learned of this national organization from a friend in California, she decided to organize one of its fundraisers for this area.
Through March 6, Biehn had 12 volunteers agreeing to shave their heads for pledges, including two other women and two youngsters.
Since this national foundation originated seven years ago, it has raised more than $20 million for childhood cancer research.
Biehn hopes more people will not only volunteer to shave their heads for this event, which coincides with the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, but also that many people will come and cheer on the “shavees.”
To participate, call Biehn at 947-5121.

“M” is the magic letter for the month of March for the Brewer Hometown Band, reports director Jan Cox.
The band will present a unique concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Brewer Auditorium in which all the song titles will begin with “M.”
“We’ll have medleys, marches and more,” she wrote.
And a special treat is that one of the pieces, a march, has been specifically composed for the Brewer Hometown Band by Ed Kalish, who will conduct the band as it performs his work.
“We’ll offer M&Ms and other munchies at intermission,” Cox wrote, and “our decorations and uniform badges will be maroon.
“We hope to see many, many friends” in attendance “to hear this marvelous music in March.”
Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
