The board of directors of Bangor Hydro Electric Co. has appointed Peter Dawes as treasurer. Dawes joined the company in 1993 as manager of accounting systems. He was promoted to assistant controller in 1999 and became supervisor of accounting and reporting in October 2001, when Bangor Hydro was acquired by Emera Inc. In February 2005, he was promoted to the position of controller. Dawes was born and raised in Bangor. He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., in May 1986. Dawes is a member of the Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants and also served on the Finance & Facilities Committee of the Maine
Community College System, the school board of SAD 63, and as treasurer of the Children’s Theatre of Maine. He resides in Holden with his wife, Susan, and their son, Adam.
U.S. Cellular recently named Bob Gil as a small-business expert at its Bangor store, located at 33 Mid Mall Blvd. Gil is part of the company’s small-business team, which focuses on providing small businesses with the individual attention they require and cellular solutions that are specific to their business. He will provide guidance to employees and offer in-store analysis and solutions to meet the different needs of small businesses. Gil also will work with companies to analyze their needs by conducting a “wireless needs analysis” that will identify the services that are right for their business. U.S. Cellular is the nation’s sixth-largest wireless service carrier, serving 5.8 million customers in 26 states.
