Symphony Orchestra to perform April 1

ORONO – The Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra and Symphonic Band will perform their end-of-season concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 1, in Minsky Recital Hall, Class of 1944 Hall, University of Maine.

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Gina Provenzano, will perform Timothy Loest’s “Friends of Freedom,” Moussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibit,” Eric Osterling’s “Dixieland Struttin'” and Ed Huckeby’s “Ascentium.” A small wind ensemble will open the concert.

The Orchestra, conducted by Rebecca Edmondson, will perform William Hofeldt’s “Centennial Overture,” Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Princess,” Mary O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori’s “Halo Theme” from “Halo Suite” and Douglas Wagner’s arrangement of “To Reap the Blessings of Freedom.” The BSYO string quartet will perform in the lobby prior to the concert and during the concert.

Joining the BSYO for this performance will be the Penobscot Children’s Choir directed by Tee Stanislaw and Gerald Wheeler. The concert is open to the public and donations will be accepted.

The Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra is a nonprofit organization founded in 1968 to provide a high quality orchestra and band experience for intermediate to advanced students.
