High winds Thursday left about 440 homes and businesses without power in Hancock, Lincoln, Piscataquis, Washington and Penobscot counties.

Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. said it was working Thursday evening to restore electricity to the customers. Additional Bangor Hydro crews were expected to be on duty to respond to outages and monitor windy conditions throughout the night.
