Old Town man jailed in alleged assault

OLD TOWN – An Old Town man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting his roommate.

The incident was reported to police by the victim’s cousin who had received a voice message from the victim who reportedly let out a “blood-curdling scream” and said he’d been assaulted, Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey read Wednesday from the police report.

Officers confirmed that the victim lived at Pine Haven Trailer Park, and that an ambulance already had been requested at Lot 70.

“They met with the victim there,” Casey said. “His right eye was purple and red and swollen almost shut.”

The victim was bleeding from his right eye and nostril and had a cut on his lip.

John Pope, 44, of Old Town accused his roommate of calling their landlord on him. The victim denied it and a fight ensued.

Afraid that Pope would assault the victim again, police arrested Pope and took him to Penobscot County Jail. Pope was released after making his initial appearance Wednesday at 3rd District Court in Bangor.
