A Massachusetts man summoned for operating under the influence proved to be extremely respectful and cooperative when Bangor police stopped him after he was seen driving on the wrong side of the road.
Officer Steve Pelletier pulled over a vehicle driven by Daniel Getchell, 21, of East Sandwich, Mass., just after 1 a.m. Saturday when he saw the car on the wrong side of Oak Street.
Pelletier smelled alcohol in Getchell’s car and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot, according to the police report.
Getchell stepped out of the car so Pelletier could administer a field sobriety test. Getchell insisted that he had only had a couple of drinks and was sober enough to drive back to his dorm on the University of Maine campus.
Even though Getchell failed the field sobriety test, he answered all the officer’s questions by calling him “sir” and didn’t argue when the officer summoned him for operating under the influence. An Intoxilyzer test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .11 percent, according to the report.
Bangor police summoned a man Sunday for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit, according to the police report.
Officer Wade Betters followed a car that was weaving all over Hammond Street after it left the Ramada Inn around 1:20 a.m.
Betters pulled the vehicle over in a parking lot and smelled a strong odor of alcohol as he approached. A passenger claimed an open container of Budweiser beer to be his.
Betters asked the driver, Matthew Sawyer, 24, to step out of the vehicle for a field sobriety test. Sawyer failed the test and was taken to the Bangor Police Department, where an Intoxilyzer test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .18 percent.
Sawyer’s car was towed and his two passengers, who also had been drinking, walked home.

Nurse was taken to Penobscot County Jail where he will wait to be extradited to New York.
