Two new registered architects have joined The Ames Corp. in Bangor. A native of Maine, Don Butterfield brings more than 30 years of experience to Ames. Butterfield served as Vice President of REN Architects of Chambersburg, Penn., before establishing a private architectural practice. His portfolio includes corporate, medical, educational and community development projects, with a special interest in rehabilitative and upgrade design and construction. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. Judy Graebert gained much of her early experience in Connecticut, where she worked with CE Maguire Engineers and Planners. Her responsibilities there included design and development of construction documents for numerous municipal, military, healthcare and housing projects. Graebert earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture with high distinction from Pennsylvania State University.

Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream, based in Skowhegan, has promoted Denny Conley to sales manager and Arland Gifford to sales distribution manager, and appointed Tom Egan southern New England sales manager. Conley’s responsibilities will include growth in new sales territories and oversight of existing and new product sales. Gifford will be responsible for all the sales representatives and distribution in northern New England, while Egan will manage the same for southern New England.

Derrill “Del” Maynard recently joined St. Joseph Healthcare as director of materials management. Maynard previously spent 24 years employed by South County Hospital in South Kingston, R.I., where he served as materials manager for 21 years before becoming director of ancillary and affiliate services.

Tammy Burnham Rolfe has been named the corporate compliance officer at Maine Veterans Homes based in Augusta. She will be responsible for the development and administration of the Maine Veterans Homes Corporate Compliance program.

Rolfe brings more than 20 years of experience in health care and long-term care, having served as a nursing home administrator, licensed social worker, accountant and senior center director.

Dr. Judith M. Watson recently returned from England where she received her doctorate in biblical counseling. Watson has opened a counseling office at 27 Exchange St. in Bangor and is accepting clients. She can be reached at 356-5933.

Katherine “Katie” Sanborn has accepted the position of assistant to the commissioner of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services in Augusta. Sanborn previously was employed by MaineGeneral Health as a communications specialist in the community relations department and also worked as a health educator with MaineGeneral in the Waterville area. She is a certified health education specialist with experience in a number of prevention areas. Sanborn will serve primarily as the department’s legislative liaison and media spokesperson.

Dr. John Garofalo joined the Newport Family Practice in July. He has 15 years of experience with Augusta Family Physicians and served as the president of the Maine Medical Association from 1995 to 1996.

Garofalo received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
