Pap, breast screenings offered free to women

BELFAST – Waldo County General Hospital and Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program will offer a free screening day for area women Friday, May 18, at Waldo County General Hospital.

Women who meet the following criteria may qualify for a no-cost digital mammogram and Pap test:

. Between ages 40 and 46.

. Have no insurance; have insurance with a high deductible, or insurance doesn’t cover the cost of mammograms or Pap tests.

. Meet Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program income guidelines.

Call (800) 350-5180 for preregistration and scheduling. Women who are enrolled in the Maine Breast and Cervical Health program may choose a physician from one of the following health centers: Stockton Springs Regional Health Center; Donald S. Walker Health Center in Liberty; or Arthur Jewell Community Health Center in Brooks.

Correction: A news brief in some editions Wednesday about free health screenings through Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast gave the wrong range of ages for women eligible to participate. Women between 40 and 64 with no insurance or high deductibles are eligible for the May 18 mammograms or Pap tests. Call 1-800-350-5180 to reach the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program for preregistration.
