Art auction for scholarships

Upward Bound will hold its fourth Art Auction for the Upward Bound Scholarship Program at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Penobscot Valley Country Club to raise funds to assist students from low-income households in becoming the first in their families to attend college.

The event will offer hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. The live auction begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, $35 a couple and $120 party of eight. For info or tickets, call 581-2522.

Tasting Bee

The Orono Historical Society will hold its annual Tasting Bee 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Asa Adams School gymnasium. Local restaurants will offer food for sampling: Pat’s Pizza, Margarita’s, Ampersand/The Store, Dirigo Pines, Woodman’s Bar and Grill and the Bear Brew Pub. Door prizes will be awarded.

Tickets are $10, $5 children 6 to 12, free under 5. Tickets are available at Ampersand/The Store, The Pretty Woman, Judy’s Scrapping and Stamping, at the door, or from Marlene Doucette, 866-2597. Proceeds benefit restoration of the Civil War monument in Orono’s Webster Park.
