Corinna to honor servicemen, servicewomen

Corinna servicemen and servicewomen will be honored during that community’s second annual Old Home Days scheduled for June 30, reports Kay Gray, and the planning committee wants to know who those people will be.

Corinna’s servicemen and servicewomen who wish to be part of this event are asked to call Sandy Bolstridge, 278-5360, or Manny Fernandez, 278-3685, before Tuesday, May 15.

In addition, any crafters who would like to display their wares “at our craft fair, on the same day,” Gray wrote, are asked to call her at 924-3027.

Many activities are planned for the celebration, from a parade to concerts and a street dance.

On a related subject, Gray wants readers to know that there are three drop boxes where you can leave donated items that will be sent to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

One box is located at Dragons Den and Gardens on Route 7 North, a second is at the Corinna town office and a third at Skowhegan Savings Bank in Corinna.

Requested items for the drop boxes include “white socks, stuffed animals, munchies that don’t get sticky or crushed,” paper, pencils, “markers for the children over there,” lip balm, suntan lotion, baby wipes, Wet Ones, soap, washcloths and phone cards, Gray wrote.

People in the Skowhegan-Madison area who want to do something special for their mothers are invited by the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge to attend its 32nd annual Mother’s Day ceremony.

Mothers will be treated to a free brunch from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday, May 13, at the lodge, 21 Silver St., in Skowhegan. The charge for guests is $3.

Past Exalted Ruler Arthur Morse will host the organization’s Mother’s Day ceremony at 11 a.m., and announce the name of the lodge’s 2007 Mother of the Year.

Both events are open to the public, and more information can be obtained by calling the lodge at 474-3111 or e-mailing elks2531@gwi.net.

The public is invited by the Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau to attend its 12th annual tourism awards dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Jeff’s Catering in Bangor.

Word has been received that Rodolfo “Rudy” Ramirez, who for 15 years was an assistance coach at the Vickie Daigle School of Gymnastics and Dance in Bangor, has terminal cancer.

He now resides in Montreal, where, for several years, he has owned and managed a cleaning business.

Anyone who would like to send him cards or letters can do so by mailing them to his former wife, Vickie Daigle, Apt. 403, 2300 Ward St., Ville St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada, H4M 2V3, who told me she would deliver and read them to him.
