30 Years of Ballet

Turning 30 is not always a dancer’s favorite landmark, but when Robinson Ballet Company celebrates its 30th anniversary year this weekend, it’s sure to be a moving event. The company’s spring recital, at 7 p.m. May 11-12 at the University of Maine’s Hauck Auditorium in Orono, will include original choreography from the history books as well as new works by guest choreographers Terry Lacy and Stevie Dunham. The program features performances by guest artists Rebecca Sweet and Jean-Paul Gronek of the Viva Dance Studio of Cleveland. Sweet and Gronek also will offer a Latin dance workshop at 1 p.m. May 12 and a ballroom dance workshop at 2:30 p.m. May 12 at 107 Union St. in Bangor. The Saturday evening performance will be followed by a post-show discussion and a 30th anniversary slide show. Tickets for performances are $14 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students under 18. For tickets or information about workshops, call 989-7226.
