Reality shows gear up for finales as May sweeps period continues

And the winner is … scheduled to be announced May 22.

With three contestants left, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” will crown the king and queen of dance during Tuesday night’s finale.

Monday’s show should be interesting because each couple will perform twice with one dance being the judge’s pick and the second freestyle. Check it out at 8 p.m. Monday, May 21, on ABC.

Usually I like to try and pick a favorite, but this one is really tough with celebrity dancers Laila Ali, Joey Fatone and Apolo Anton Ohno remaining in the competition.

While Fatone does have a somewhat unfair advantage because he’s performed as a singer-dancer for years, Ali and Ohno have the athleticism and both have become more and more graceful throughout the competition.

So, I’ve decided to leave this one alone for now and pick the “American Idol” winner instead.

It’s been said that Blake is the dark horse with his beat box rhythms and may be able to pull off a win in the end, but my money’s on Jordin.

Melinda Doolittle’s got the stage presence and the big voice, but there’s something about Jordin Sparks that just makes you want her to succeed. She’s young, poised, and if she’s this talented now, watch out when she gets a little more experience under her belt.

As for what’s coming up this fall, NBC’s “The Apprentice” is on the line and the network hasn’t decided whether or not to fire the Donald, according to The Associated Press.

I never thought I’d say it, because season after season I’ve praised and been addicted to the show, but I think it might be time for it to go.

Tent city where the losers had to live was a weak attempt to add some drama and I’m afraid that another season would bring even more lame attempts to save the show that would only cheapen what once was great.

Trump should bow out gracefully and move on to his next big marketing stunt.

There is one decision that NBC has committed to, and that is to drop “The Real Wedding Crashers.” While the show lasted longer than some marriages, Britney Spears’ first trip down the aisle for example, I don’t think it will be missed.
