Martin squeeze lifts VB to upset Wisdom softball sweeps Ashland

VAN BUREN – Alex Martin laid down a suicide squeeze with one out in the seventh inning to score Matt Parent and give Van Buren a 12-11 high school baseball victory over Limestone Community School & Maine School of Science and Mathematics on Friday.

Martin had three singles and three RBIs and recorded 11 strikeouts on the mound for the Crusaders. Kyle Chasse doubled twice and drove in two runs and Brandon Boulware added two singles and two RBIs.

Matt Enman hit a grand slam in the second inning for the Eagles, and Kyle Dempsey had two singles and two RBIs.

At Fort Kent, Derek Bonenfant racked up two doubles, two singles and three RBIs to lead Fort Kent to the win.

Jesse Guimond tripled and doubled to plate five runs for the Warriors. Derrick Chasse and Joe Soucy added two doubles apiece.

Adam Thompson doubled twice and singled to knock in a run for Washburn.

At East Sullivan, Tom Cameron slapped a two-run double to spark a seven-run second inning, and Caleb Ashey added an RBI double during the rally as Searsport rolled to the win.

Cameron finished with two doubles, a single and three RBIs and Ashey later added another RBI double for the Vikings.

Evan Kingsbury notched an RBI double and RBI single and Justin Brassbridge two singles and an RBI for the winners.

Evan Alexander hit a pair of singles for Sumner.

At South China, Adam Fournier knocked three singles and drove in two runs to lead Old Town past Erskine Academy.

Jason Smith had an RBI double for the Coyotes and Tyler Cates tallied two singles, scored two runs and stole four bases.

Jeremy Cospanca hit an RBI single for the Eagles while Damilo Tibbets and Justin Stewart both singled.

Wisdom sweeps Ashland

At St. Agatha, senior Nicole St. Pierre recorded 26 strikeouts through 14 innings to lead Wisdom to the 11-3 win in the first game and 9-1 win in the second game over Ashland.

In the first game, Deliya Michaud had two singles and two RBIs for the Pioneers and Kayla Daigle doubled and singled with an RBI. Elsie Berce hit an RBI single and Tracey Anderson doubled.

Katie Clark singled twice for Ashland and Autumn Cobb added an RBI single.

In the second game, St. Pierre hit an RBI triple and RBI double for Wisdom. Sadi Dubois had an RBI single and Daigle tripled.

Cobb hit an RBI single for the Hornets and Mindy Chasse singled.

At Fort Kent, Marissa Albert hit three singles and drove in two runs to help lead Fort Kent past Washburn.

Trisha Desjardins and Lindsay Stanley both had two singles and two RBIs for the Warriors and Krystal Cyr doubled.

Kelsse McLaughlin doubled and singled with three RBIs to lead Washburn. Amber Palmer had four singles and an RBI and Erica McDougall singled twice.

Jennifer Ouellette had two singles and an RBI for the Crusaders and Kristen Vaillancourt singled twice.

Stacy Bernier had two singles and two RBIs for the Eagles. Julie Peers doubled and singled and Victoria St. Pierre had two singles and an RBI.

At Lee, Kelsey Lavertu doubled in a run while Casey McCloskey singled twice and scored two more runs as Penobscot Valley of Howland triumphed.

Mindy Dolley had two singles and an RBI and Kirstie Dawson two singles and two runs scored for the Howlers.

Morgan McGaw singled for Lee Academy’s only hit.

Erica Lyford had two doubles and a single with two RBIs for Penquis and Amber Benoit tripled and singled with two runs scored.

At East Sullivan, Tashia Daley and Nicky Sargent combined to allow one run on two hits and six walks while striking out 13 to lead Sumner past Searsport.

Lona Sargent hit a two-run double and a single for Sumner. Morgan Traxler and Ashley Pennartz hit RBI singles in the sixth inning.

Kristen Kronholm doubled and scored for Searsport and Jess Libby singled.
