Teen thrown from car suffers minor injuries

A young woman from Bangor was thrown from her car late Friday night after she lost control of the vehicle on Pushaw Road in Glenburn.

Raquel Lane, 18, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center around 10:30 p.m. Friday, after she hit a soft shoulder and rolled over her 1991 Honda into a nearby field, said Penobscot Sheriff’s Department Deputy Roy Peary.

Lane had minor injuries and had been released from the hospital by Saturday, Peary said. She was traveling alone and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Since she was thrown from the vehicle, Lane probably was not wearing a seat belt, he said. Speed was likely the cause of the accident, he said.

Investigators believe a drunken driver caused an accident in Plymouth late Friday night that sent two people to the hospital.

Three teenage males, ranging in age from 17 to 19, were traveling on Route 7 in Plymouth near the village when the Nissan car they were in rolled over, said Deputy Roy Peary of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

Two were sent to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield with minor injuries, but later were released, Peary said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, but investigators are still unsure which young man was driving the car, he said.

The case is under investigation and the names of those involved would not be available until it is complete, Peary said.

A Massachusetts man was taken to the hospital Saturday night after crashing his ATV on a snowmobile trail in Corinna.

The man, whose name and age was not available at press time, was riding with about six other people when he crashed three-fourths of a mile north of the Lincoln Mills Road, said Officer Jon Brown of the Dexter Police Department.

One of the riders called for help using a cell phone at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The man was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital, but the extent of his injuries was unknown, said Brown.

A high school couple’s prom was ruined Sunday night after a run-in with the law.

On their way to the prom, the couple was stopped on Route 1A by the Holden Police Department and summoned for possessing drugs and alcohol.

The 17-year-old tuxedo-clad male from Bucksport was summoned for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, while his 16-year-old date, of Belfast, was summoned for possession of alcohol by a minor.

The girl had stashed a Diet Pepsi bottle in her handbag, but the container had more than just diet cola in it, according to Officer Chris Greeley of the Holden Police Department.

After parents were contacted, the teenagers were told to report home, never making it to their night of glamour.

As temperatures climbed into the 90s Friday, several people were reminded that leaving car windows down in public parking lots is not worth the risk.

More than $1,500 in clothing and electronics was stolen from two cars parked in the Bangor Mall Cinemas 10 lot on Stillwater Avenue while the owners were inside the theater watching a movie between 9 and 10:30 p.m., according to police reports.

Among the stolen items were two iPods, a digital camera, compact discs, an iPod and cell phone charger, and several hundred dollars’ worth of clothing.

On Saturday night, more than $300 worth of CDs and other items were stolen from cars parked at the theater.

Several visitors staying at the hotels on the Odlin Road woke Saturday morning to find items missing from their vehicles as well.

A silver aluminum briefcase was stolen from a truck in the Travelodge parking lot, while a keyboard was taken from a car at the Super 8 Motel. Cash, a wallet and purse were lifted from a car in the Holiday Inn parking lot during the night, according to reports.

All vehicles were believed to be unlocked and some owners even left the windows down with the valuables inside.
