The Baxter State Park Authority has selected Marcia Williamson as the new interpretive specialist for Baxter State Park.
As one of two year- round positions in the park’s information-education division, Williamson will oversee summer patrols on Mount Katahdin and citizen science initiatives each summer, including the annual loon watch and mountain plant watch.
Her duties will include designing educational programs about the park and offering outreach programs to school, Scout and citizen groups from October through April.
Williamson recently completed a three-year stint traveling across the U.S. with her husband, Gabe Williamson, as a team of Traveling Trainers for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, with headquarters in Boulder, Colo.
Before that she shared the responsibility of running Daicey Pond Campground in Baxter State Park with her husband from 1991 to 2001.
