BANGOR – A New England company that provides fundraising consultation to nonprofits recently acquired Gary Friedmann & Associates of Bangor and moved its headquarters to the Queen City.
BHC Consulting Group LLC of Verona Island and South Easton, Mass., purchased Gary Friedmann & Associates in March but the transition to the BHC Consulting Group name was made official only last month, said Sue Bernier, a BHC principal. The company specializes in strategic counsel for all aspects of nonprofit development, including strategic planning, major gift programs, capital campaigns and planned giving.
“We looked at office space in Massachusetts and Maine, we looked at salary ranges in both states and weighed the pros and cons, but we kept coming back to Maine,” Bernier said Thursday. The nonprofit organizations in Maine “deserve and require choices when it comes to counsel and expertise in not-for-profit management and fundraising. More and more of those organizations are looking for local expertise and experience.”
Former Gary Friedmann clients that are now BHC Consulting Group clients are the Maine Discovery Museum, the Orono Public Library Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Maine and the Waterville Public Library, Bernier said.
Gary Friedmann and six of his employees have joined the two existing BHC Consulting Group employees. Bernier’s business partner, John Haederle, heads up the Massachusetts office in South Easton.
“This office [in Bangor] also allows us to grow our practice in Massachusetts,” Bernier said, referring to the company’s new service offerings since the acquisition, such as support services and graphic design.
