PORTLAND – Yarmouth High School graduate Pat Tarpy on Sunday became the first Maine runner to run a sub-four-minute mile on Maine soil. He won the KeyBank New England Mile in 3 minutes, 54.8 seconds, beating the course record of 4:05 set last year by Milford native Dereck Treadwell.
Tarpy, a graduate student and assistant coach at Providence College, was one of 150 runners in the race field.
