Lincoln police chief resigns 2 others leaving town department

LINCOLN – Police Chief Hank Dusenbery and two other members of the town’s Police Department have tendered their resignations.

Dusenbery, who took the helm of the town’s police squad five years ago after a 20-year career with the state police, cited philosophical differences with town officials as his reason for leaving.

“From my perspective, it’s just a difference in philosophy,” he said. “I’m kind of stubborn and this has been causing me some stress and I want to eliminate it.”

The chief’s resignation was tendered Monday and takes effect July 2.

Also leaving are Sgt. Jamie Slauenwhite, who has accepted a post with the Old Town Police Department, and Patrolman Nelson Grant, who is relocating to Montana to be closer to his wife’s family, Town Manager Glenn Aho said Wednesday.

The three departures leave the town with three full-time police officers.

Despite the departures, Aho said, Lincoln will continue to have around-the-clock police coverage.

For now, the town’s five reserve officers will be used to fill scheduling vacancies.

Aho said the town will begin advertising for a new police chief in the next few weeks.
