Sports center releases slate of summer events

CARIBOU – With summer in full swing, officials with the Maine Winter Sports Center are encouraging people to get out and go.

The latest slate of activities in Aroostook County includes:

. Bull Run 8K race at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 7, in Houlton. Registration will be held before the race at the Houlton Recreation Center. For information, contact Larry Tonzi at 532-7548.

. County Cycle Classic, a 22-mile bike race from Van Buren to Caribou on Sunday, July 8. The race starts at 9 a.m. Registration will be held before the race at Gateway School in Van Buren. For information, contact the Caribou Recreation Department at 493-4224.

. North American Summer Biathlon Championships in Fort Kent, July 12-15. Races for experienced and novice biathletes include paintball biathlon and golf cart biathlon. Volunteers are needed. . The Musterd Mile will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 13. Registration will be held at Caribou High School. For more information, contact Bruce Freme at 496-8731 or visit www.ainop.com/users/musterds.

. Between June 28 and Aug. 16, the Maine Winter Sports Center is holding its Youth Training Program for eighth- and ninth-graders. The program is held from 8 to 10 a.m. every Thursday at the Nordic Heritage Center. For information, contact Will Sweetser at 227-3322.

. From July 5 to March 27, the Jalbert Youth Biathlon Program will be held. The program meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at the 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent. For information, contact Jeff Dubis at 316-8866.
