Orono man reports items stolen from home

Police are looking for the person who broke into a Forest Avenue home in Orono last Friday and stole several small items.

The owner told police he left for about half an hour and when he returned home, he was missing his gold watch.

“He didn’t think anything of the watch at the time, he just knew he couldn’t find it,” Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said Monday.

The man left again about an hour later and when he returned home, he noticed the basement door was open.

After going inside, the owner discovered that the container where he kept coins was empty and some jewelry, a digital camera and a set of antique silver spoons also were missing.

The owner said he noticed a clean-shaven male walking in the area and described him as wearing a light blue shirt, dark pants, and carrying a red backpack.

The homeowner told police he didn’t recognize the individual, and Ewing said it’s unusual to see someone walking out there.

Bangor police reported

several break-ins to motor vehicles over the weekend and on Monday, but most were done to unlocked cars, police said.

Despite the warm weather, people still should secure windows and doors of cars that do not contain passengers or pets, police said.

“Just make sure your windows are up and your doors are locked,” said Sgt. Allen Hayden of the Bangor Police Department. (Anne Ravana, BDN)
