Junior Girl Scouts earn Bronze Awards

HERMON – Four members of Girl Scout Troop 175 in Hermon – Leah Jones, Allison Elston, Kaylyn Cushman and Janine Wheeler – received the Girl Scout Bronze Award at a recent ceremony.

Leah is the daughter of Nancy Jacobson and Jeff Jones of Bangor.

Kaylyn is the daughter of Kristen and Mark Cushman of Hermon.

Janine is the daughter of Trinh and Jeff Wheeler of Old Town.

Allison is the daughter of Patti and Donny Elston of Hermon.

The Bronze Award is the highest award in Junior Girl Scouting. The organization asks the girls to pick an area of interest, earn badges which support that interest, learn and practice leadership skills and use those skills to carry out a project to benefit the community. The girls must invest a minimum of 15 hours to earn the Bronze Award.

Members of Troop 175, all seventh-graders, provided service to the Bangor Humane Society by sewing 50 cat and dog blankets for bedding and made toys to entertain and exercise the cats at the shelter. The girls also made and hung bird feeders at Ecotat Gardens in Hermon.

Kristen Cushman, Nancy Jacobson and Patti Elston serve as leaders of the troop.
