1st & 10 football camp

ORONO – The Orono Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 1st and 10 football camp, to be held 6-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 30-Aug. 3. The camp will be run by Orono High School football Coach Bob Sinclair and is open to children in grades one to five.

The camp will teach children to pass, catch, kick and other skills needed to play football. The fee is $30 for Orono residents, $40 others. For more information, call the recreation office at 866-5065.

Youth football

ORONO – The Orono Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its youth football program. The program is open to area youth entering grade one to six. Children in grades one and two will play flag football, those in grades three and four will play flag football with equipment, and those in grades five and six will take part in full-contact football in league play.

Practices begin Wednesday, Aug. 22, for those in grades five and six. Equipment will be supplied. The cost is $25 for the grades one and two program and $40 for the grades three to six program. A $10 late fee will be charged after Aug. 1. For more information, call 866-5065.

Quick Stix field hockey

ORONO – The Orono Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its Quick Stix field hockey clinic 9-11 a.m. Monday-Friday, Aug. 6-10. The camp is open to children in grades three through nine and will be directed by Orono High School varsity field hockey Coach Samantha Runco.

Emphasis will be on fundamentals, safety and game knowledge. The fee is $30 for Orono residents and $40 others. For more information, call the recreation office at 866-5065.

Check Mate Chess Camp

ORONO – The Orono Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its Check Mate Chess Camp for girls and boys in grades five to nine. The camp runs 9-11 a.m. Monday-Friday, Aug. 13-17. The camp will encompass all levels of play. The cost is $40 for Orono residents, $50 others. Varsity baseball

ASHBURNHAM, Mass. – Joseph Gagne of Orrington, a junior at Cushing Academy, received a varsity letter in baseball during an athletic awards ceremony held in May.
