AUGUSTA – Maine’s unemployment rate in June was 4.4 percent, down from 4.5 percent in May, the state Labor Department said Friday.
Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said June’s preliminary rate also was 0.1 percentage point lower than the national rate for the same month.
Maine gained 2,300 non-farm wage and salary jobs between May and June, Fortman said. Job gains were recorded in leisure and hospitality services, health services, professional and business services and construction.
The figures are adjusted to reflect seasonal fluctuations in the labor market.
