PARSONSFIELD – Homicide detectives planned to meet with state prosecutors this week to decide whether charges should be filed against a Parsonsfield man who shot two men outside his home during the weekend, killing one and wounding the other.
The shootings took place early Saturday outside the mobile home of Jared Nichols on Route 160 in the small town in western York County.
Nichols, 28, had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, Emily Doughty, who left the property and then returned with two men and a second woman, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.
The three men got into a confrontation in the front yard at around 2 a.m., McCausland said, and a handgun that Nichols was holding went off during the fight, hitting the two other men.
Todd Leblanc, 23, of Porter was dead at the scene. Peter Sampietro, 25, of Hiram was transported to Maine Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound.
Nichols called police to report the shooting, and detectives arrived at the home to gather evidence and conduct interviews, McCausland said.
An autopsy on Leblanc’s body was to be performed Sunday at the state medical examiner’s office, but the results were not expected to be available until today.
