Travolta gets oral warning for speeding in Rockport

ROCKPORT – Actor John Travolta was in a real hurry Sunday.

The Islesboro resident was stopped for speeding Sunday morning on U.S. Route 1.

He told the officer he was on his way to a nearby Denny’s for some fast food.

Rockport police Sgt. Paul Pinkham stopped the Pontiac Grand Am driven by Travolta at 1:45 a.m. for going a little over the speed limit, he said Sunday.

Travolta and a male friend were on their way to Denny’s to get something to eat, the officer said. The Denny’s in Rockport closes at 2 a.m.

Travolta politely apologized, police said.

Pinkham gave the actor an oral warning, noting that his speed was not much over the 45 mph limit.

Correction: Rockport police said Monday that actor John Travolta was in a vehicle that was stopped for speeding early Sunday, but that he was not the driver as reported in the Sept. 10 paper. No charges were filed in the incident.
