Orono edges PCHS 2-1 Vinal, Tuell, Johnson, Saucier spark Red Riots

GUILFORD – Elizabeth Vinal broke a 1-1 tie off of a Jill Tuell assist with 7:26 left in regulation to lead the Orono Red Riots to a 2-1 high school field hockey victory over the Piscataquis Community Pirates Saturday.

Kelsey Johnson scored in the first half for the 1-2 Red Riots. Amber Saucier blocked two of five shots.

Kaitlin Smith scored on a Annie Agnew assist in the first half for 0-3 Piscataquis. Brianna Tweedie made 14 saves on 16 shots.

JV: 1-1

Mattanawcook 1, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Dani Nicastro scored on a penalty corner with 4:57 left in regulation to lead Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to the win over Foxcroft Academy.

Sarah French stopped all four shots for 3-0 Mattanawcook.

Renee Maheu made three saves on four shots for 2-1 Foxcroft.

JV: Foxcroft 1-0

Oak Hill 1, MCI 0

At Pittsfield, Casey Gonzalez scored the winner off of a Courtney Clark assist with 8:54 left in the first half to lift Oak Hill of Sabattus over Maine Central Institute.

Brittany Wood stopped all 10 shots for 2-1 Oak Hill.

Kayla Michaud made six saves on seven shots for 0-4 MCI.

Girls soccer

Woodland 3, Calvary Chapel 1

At Woodland, Christine Boomer scored two goals and assisted the other to lift Woodland over Calvary Chapel of Orrington.

Julia Nicholas added a goal for the 3-1 Dragons and Rachel Graybill assisted both of Boomer’s goals. Cynthia Bergin made eight saves on 14 shots.

Faith Thomas scored with 12:55 left in the first half for the 1-1-1 Sabers. Hannah Lacadie stopped 27 of 34 shots.

Searsport 8, Penquis 1

At Searsport, Kali Berenyi had two goals and two assists to lift Searsport over Penquis of Milo.

Kylie Jettinghoff also scored twice for 1-3 Searsport and Sarah Bradshaw had a goal and two assists. Tianna Faunce, Kayla Garcelon and Shannon Higgins each added a goal. Megan Higgins and Amanda Chaney combined for 10 saves on 14 shots.

Kayla Webb scored on a penalty kick in the first half for 1-2 Penquis. Brooke McLaughlin stopped 19 of 38 shots.

Orono 2, Dexter 1

At Dexter, Devon Riley scored a first-half goal and Meaghan Curtis added a second-half goal on a penalty kick to lead Orono past Dexter.

Brittany Pinkham stopped two of six shots for 3-0 Orono.

Sarah Murray scored with 9:11 left in the second half off of a Ravan Patterson assist for 2-1 Dexter. Ashley Richardson made seven saves on 11 shots.

Lee 7, Houlton 0

At Lee, Amanda Gifford scored three goals and Aarika Ritchie chipped in with two goals and four assists to lead Lee.

Heidi Sappier added two goals for Lee and Morgan McGaw recorded an assist. Karin Bird made six saves on 12 shots.

Bethany Targonski finished with 11 saves on 34 shots for Houlton.

Boys soccer

Messalonskee 10, Nokomis 0

At Newport, David Rossignol scored five times to lift Messalonskee of Oakland over Nokomis.

Caleb Bragg scored two goals for the 3-1 Eagles and Matt Delgiudice had a goal and two assists. Nathan Snow and Cameron Douglas both added a goal. Sergio Servello made eight saves on 10 shots.

Mark Gustin and Mike Woodbury combined to stop 18 shots for 0-4 Nokomis.

JV: Messalonskee 4-0

Houlton 2, Lee 0

At Lee, James Bates scored with 28 minutes left off of a Mike Libby assist to lead Houlton to victory over Lee Academy.

Parker Brown added an insurance goal on a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining for 2-5 Houlton. Ryan Van Buskirk blocked five of eight shots.

A.J. Harris made 12 saves on 26 shots for 0-2 Lee.

Hampden 2, Waterville 1

At Hampden, Maic Frieden scored both goals to lift Hampden Academy over Waterville.

Nick El-Hajj provided both assists for 2-2 Hampden. Cam Cox stopped eight of nine shots.

Alex Chase scored a second-half goal off of a Tyler Worcester assist for 1-3 Waterville. Zack Jochem made 10 saves on 13 shots.

JV: Hampden 1-0

Dexter 3, Orono 1

At Dexter, Ethan Woodman, Rick Stewart and Josh Stanhope each scored to lead Dexter by Orono.

Lucas Jewett grabbed an assist on the goal by Stanhope. Chris Eastman made nine saves on 12 shots for the 2-0 Tigers.

Gracen Malave scored for Orono off an assist from Lee Hecker. Nate Peterson made 12 saves on 18 shots for the 0-1 Red Riots.

Islesboro 4, Highview Chr. 0

At Charleston, Max Mahan recorded a pair of goals to lead Islesboro by Highview Christian Academy.

Jason Hatch and Don Johnson each added a goal for Islesboro while Jesse Tutor posted two assists. Gerard Scherr made two saves on a pair of shots for the 1-1 Eagles.

Ben Le made 22 saves on 35 shots for the 0-1 Knights.

Football

MDI 19, Morse 13 (OT)

At Bar Harbor, Terrence Jones caught five passes for 131 yards and scored the winning touchdown in overtime on a two-yard run to give Mount Desert Island the win over Morse.

Jon Hall scored on a 53-yard run in the second quarter for MDI. Tyler Crawford completed eight of 16 passes for 168 yards and had a 70-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Jones in the third quarter.

John Wolfe put Morse on the board in the third quarter on a four-yard run. Wolfe had 24 carries for 111 yards.

Sean Wallace tied the game on a six-yard run with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter but the extra point kick was blocked by MDI’s Jasper Cousins.

Nolan Hall caught two passes for 33 yards for MDI. Danny Dunn had 11 tackles and Max Dority added nine tackles and a fumble recovery.

MDI totaled 241 yards of offense and Morse had 234 yards of offense. Morse rushed for 216 yards on 57 carries.
