More soccer coverage needed
I really enjoyed your full color insert last weekend regarding high school football in Maine. It was well researched and gave BDN readers lots of information about all the teams and players.
I have been waiting for a similar publication regarding other sports, soccer in particular. Your staff must be aware that soccer is now the No. 1 sport in the United States; more boys and girls of all ages play soccer than any other sport. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that there are just as many fans, if not more, of soccer than any other sport in the state of Maine.
Most importantly, given the fact that the Bangor High School boys soccer team won the state Class A title for the very first time last year and that the girls team was runner-up, we are expecting, and demanding, more extensive local high school soccer coverage! I am sure that the followers of other prominent and popular fall sports feel the same.
Many, many thanks in advance.

Turkeys sought Down East
I think it is great we are having a fall shotgun hunt, but we have young kids in Washington County who would like to turkey hunt in their own county and I believe they are being forgotten again.
If there are so many turkeys that are bothering some farmers, and they are letting them kill the turkeys with a permit, why not catch and release them to Washington County? I have asked a biologist in Washington County this question and their answer was “we will not put turkeys where this is no food.'”
So we let people shoot them and go to waste.
They are releasing turkeys in Washington County but will only let them go on 20 miles apart. From Machias to Topsfield is more than 20 miles. Another excuse is they cannot trap them. If they need help I believe I can find a few men that will help for no cost.
So let’s forget the politics and treat our kids the same no matter where they live and help get turkeys in Washington County. I take kids turkey hunting, and last year, it cost over $300 for hotel rooms and gas so a young fellow could shoot his first turkey.

A-Rod deserves recognition
Nowhere in your entire sports section did you mention that Alex Rodriguez hit his 52d home run Sunday, his seventh in the last five games, putting him in the ranks of Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris and Babe Ruth as the only Yankees ever to hit 50 home runs or more and breaking the all-time record for third basemen.
Who is your sports editor, Jerry Remy?
