Acadia named a top spot for taking outdoor photos

The National Park Foundation placed Acadia National Park on its list of the 10 best places in the U.S. to take outdoor photographs, alongside parks in Alaska, Georgia, Idaho and other states.

The annual “Top Ten Parks and Public Lands Photo Tips” is a list of popular nature scenes and the best places in the country to find them. This year, the list was produced by the Ford Motor Co. and the National Park Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes U.S. national parks.

Acadia won in the category of fall foliage, which the guide recommends photographing in early morning or early evening light. Historic Jamestowne, Va., was named for its streetscapes, Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia was named for its diverse wildlife and Point Reyes National Seashore in California was recognized for its dazzling sunsets.

This year, the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation joined Ford Motor Co. for the official Share the Experience photo contest. Amateur photographers are encouraged to enter their favorite photos taken in America’s national parks and public lands. Winners are eligible for a variety of prizes, including a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and vacations to federal recreation areas.
