Local church, synagogue plan explorations of faith

BANGOR – A local synagogue and Congregational church are teaming up this fall to delve into the faith traditions of their neighbors.

Beth Israel, All Souls Congregational Church and the Bangor Public Library will sponsor five Tuesday night sessions for the program Faiths of Our Neighbors.

It will include presentations on the belief and practices of the followers of Islam, Christian Science, Greek Orthodox, Pentecostalism, Roman Catholicism and Mormonism in addition to Judaism and Congregationalism.

The programs will alternate between the well-known Congregational church at Broadway and State Street and the Conservative synagogue at 144 York St.

The schedule for the 7-8:30 p.m. series is:

. Sept. 18, All Souls, Christian, Pentecostal, Congregational.

. Oct. 2, Beth Israel, Roman Catholic, Evangelical Christian.

. Oct. 16, All Souls, Islam and Greek Orthodox.

. Oct. 30, Beth Israel, Judaism and Christian Science.

. Nov. 13, All Souls, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as Mormons. Reception afterward.
