A man accused of stealing $367 worth of alcohol early Sunday from the Muddy Rudder restaurant in Brewer also took a bunch of returnables, and kicked out a window in the police cruiser, Brewer police officer Liz Kelley said Tuesday.

Carl Leonard, 46, a transient from the Bangor and Brewer area, was arrested for burglary and aggravated criminal mischief for the broken vehicle window. He also has another pending burglary charge from a previous incident, Kelley said. The theft at the Muddy Rudder occurred sometime between 2 and 4 a.m. Sunday when the South Main Street restaurant was closed. How the burglar gained entry was not released.

A bicyclist visiting from Oakland, Calif., was riding up Miller Hill in Hermon on Monday evening and apparently was hit by the mirror of a truck traveling up the same hill, Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputy Roy Peary said Tuesday.

The 36-year-old male cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was up and walking after the 5:30 p.m. collision but was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for minor scrapes and bruises.

The truck driver was driving in his lane and said he never saw the rider, adding that the setting sun on the horizon impaired his vision, Peary said. No charges are pending. The truck’s mirror was smashed and the rear rim of the bike was damaged. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
