BANGOR – The Husson College women’s soccer team picked up two wins over the weekend, knocking off Lesley 7-1 Sunday and Becker 8-1 Saturday.
On Sunday, Megan LaJoie scored two goals for the Eagles. Michelle Manning, Amy Sanz, Megan Clement, Caitlyn Butterfield and Kylan Smith each added a goal for 6-4-1 Husson. Caitlin Nickerson provided two assists and Tatyana Wolterbeek blocked six of 10 shots.
Bailee Lowe made nine saves on 24 shots for 9-1-1 Lesley.
On Saturday, Lajoie scored two goals and assisted on two others.
Clement added two goals for the 5-4-1 Eagles. Nickerson and Samantha Homer both had a goal and an assist. Kylan Smith and Caitlin Butterfield added goals. Amy Sanz assisted two goals.
Middlebury 2, Colby 0
At Middlebury, Vt., Saturday, Lindsay Walker scored two goals to lead Middlebury past the visiting White Mules.
Loni Pisani made seven saves for the 3-3-1 Mules.
Wheelock 4, Thomas 2
At Waterville Saturday, Lindsey Lacourse scored two goals to pace Wheelock past Thomas College.
Karen Demers and Julia Nyitray each scored for Thomas. Lindsay Thornton made three saves on 11 shots.
Thomas 2, Bay Path 2 (2OT)
At Waterville, Bay Path College took a 2-0 lead, but Thomas came back with goals in the second half by Karen Demers and Kristi Poland to salvage a tie game.
Lindsay Thornton made six saves on 23 shots for the 5-3-2 Terriers.
Samantha Gunseth saved seven of 11 shots for 4-2 Bay Path.
Plymouth State 2, USM 1
At Plymouth, N.H., Nicole Bedard scored the winning goal on a Rachel Kindl assist at 67:45 to push Plymouth State University past the University of Southern Maine at Gorham Saturday.
Jaimee Coombs tied it off of a Gianna Minervini assist at 63:01 for 4-3 Plymouth State.
Natasha Levandowski scored on a Llia Dunham-Conway assist at 48:12 in the second half for the 4-5 Huskies. Meghan Ibar stopped eight of 10 shots.
Saint Joseph’s 8, Rivier 0
At Standish, Mikayla Call and Heidi Stucki both scored two goals to help lead Saint Joseph’s College past Rivier College Saturday.
Katie Jordan, Whitney Linindoll, Lindsay King and Jessica Needham scored for the 10-0 Monks. Lauren Hagerman provided two assists and Brianna Jordan had an assist. Katye Mayo and King combined for one save on two shots.
Brittney Puleo and Christine Jenkins combined to stop 10 of 22 shots for 2-7 Rivier.
Maine Maritime splits
At Castine, the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners knocked off Becker College 5-0 Sunday after losing a 2-1 decision to Lesley College Saturday.
On Sunday, Katie Hutchinson scored two goals to lead Maine Maritime Academy to the win over Becker College Sunday.
Diana Manatt-Rogers and Lidnsey Comeau both had a goal and an assist for the 7-3 Mariners. Meghan McKay added a goal and Amy Preble provided two assists. Lacey Jackson and Amanda Andrews combined for one save on one shot.
Caitlin Faunce stopped 10 of 14 shots for 0-10-1 Becker.
On Saturday, Lani Cabral-Pini and Jodi Fralick scored minutes apart to lead Lesley past the Mariners.
Meghan McKay scored at the 77 minute mark off of a Diana Manatt-Rogers cross for 6-3 Maine Maritime. Lacey Jackson made 10 saves on 14 shots.
UM-Machias 1, Paul Smith’s 0
At Machias, Sara Rushforth scored an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to push the University of Maine at Machias to victory over Paul Smith’s College Saturday.
Alicia Schmidt stopped 11 of 19 shots for 3-5-1 UM-Machias.
Karlie Zurmuhleu made two saves on nine shots for 1-6 Paul Smith’s.
Maine 4, Albany 0
At Albany, N.Y., Laura Martel scored two goals for the second time in three games to lead the University of Maine to victory over Albany.
Laura Harper and Veronique Fleury both added a goal for the 3-4-3 Black Bears. Fleury, Kim Stephenson and Cari Gill each provided an assist. Jasmine Phillips made two saves.
UM-Farmington wins two
At Farmington, Chelsea Norton scored two goals to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to the 3-0 shutout win over Bay Path College on Saturday. The Beavers also beat Wheelock College 6-1 Sunday.
In Saturday’s game, Amber Murphy added a goal for UM-Farmington. Amanda Byrne provided an assist. Kerry Kowalczyk and Ashley Holshouser shared time in goal but didn’t make a save.
Samantha Gunseth recorded 11 saves for Bay Path.
In Sunday’s game, Melissa St. Amand and Jessice Timmreck both scored twice for the 6-3 (4-0 NAC) Beavers. Amber Murphy and Ashley Tetreault added goals. Kowalczyk and Holshouser combined in goal for one save.
Alyce Jordan stopped five shots for 2-6 Wheelock.
Men’s soccer
UM-Farmington 1, UMPI 0
At Presque Isle, Eben Baker scored off of a Patrick Martin assist at 7:43 in the first half to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Saturday.
Brian Lemont stopped all five shots for 3-2-4 UM-Farmington.
Scott Clenchy made six saves on seven shots for 3-5-1 UM-Presque Isle.
Thomas 2, Saint Joseph’s 2 (2OT)
At Waterville Sunday, Taylor Heilberg’s goal tied the game in the second half and allowed the Thomas College Terriers to salvage a tie with the visiting Monks of Standish.
Tyler Simpson scored the first goal for 4-3-3 Thomas on a penalty kick. Russell Beckwith made seven saves on 13 shots.
For the 2-5-2 Monks, Andre Cushing and Eamonn Harrigan each scored a goal. Cory Smith made five saves on 11 shots.
USM 3, Plymouth State 2 (OT)
At Gorham Saturday, Greg Cox scored his second goal of the game 2 1/2 minutes into overtime to give the University of Maine Huskies the win.
Eddie Wennington scored the other goal for the 6-3-1 Huskies. David Kreps made five saves on 22 shots.
Takeru Tanikawa and Eric Owens each scored a goal for the 3-3-1 Panthers.
Middlebury 3, Colby 1
At Middlebury, Vt., Saturday, Baer Fisher and David LaRocca each had a goal and an assist to lead Middlebury to a come-from-behind win.
Nate Seiberling scored on a Logan King assist for the White Mules. Dan Marden had 12 saves.
Rivier 2, Saint Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Gianfranco Fisano and Chris Nugent scored to lead Rivier College past Saint Joseph’s College Saturday.
Cory Smith made two saves on seven shots for Saint Joseph’s.
SUNY Canton 4, UM-Machias 2
At Machias, Bismark Ansah, Repton Abrahams and Prince Sabatto each netted a goal to lead SUNY Canton by the University of Maine-Machias.
Isaiah Eagles and Pat Corliss each scored a goal while Adam Mauro made 14 saves on 24 shots for the 3-6-1 Clippers.
Lesley 3, Maine Maritime 1
At Castine, Sam Mead had a goal and an assist to lead Lesley University past Maine Maritime Academy Saturday.
Isaiah Roberts scored for Maine Maritime. Randy Bartlett made four saves on 15 shots.
UM-Machias 4, Paul Smith’s 0
At Machias, Anthony Martiniano scored two goals and assisted the other two to lift the University of Maine at Machias over Paul Smith’s College Saturday.
Isaiah Eagles had two goals and an assist for the 3-5-1 Clippers. Adam Mauro blocked eight of 15 shots.
Becker 4, Maine Maritime 3
At Castine Sunday, Dircilino DeBrito scored two goals, including the game-winner with four minutes left in the game, to lead Becker College past Maine Maritime Academy.
For 8-3 Becker, Scott Medeiros and Alie Samura each scored a goal. Aaron Fill and Christopher Nosek split time in goal.
For the 2-6-2 Mariners, Alan Alexander scored twice and Jeff Normand of Orono scored the other goal.
Rhode Island 4, Maine 1
At Kingston, R.I., Lukasz Tumicz scored two goals and assisted another to lead University of Rhode Island to victory over the University of Maine Sunday.
Kedan Crosby and Greg Balicki scored for 2-6 Rhode Island. Chris Pennock made two saves on seven shots.
Thomas McCole scored a first-half goal off of assists from Dan Eggert and Pat Halligan. Nemanja Kostic blocked seven of 23 shots.
Husson 3, Lesley 0
At Bangor, Jeffrey Truchon scored a goal and assisted the other two to lead Husson College past Lesley University Sunday.
Mark Trombley and Joshua Bartlett scored for the 3-7-1 Eagles. Bradley Ala made two saves on seven shots.
Zach Almeida-Beers blocked 12 of 27 shots for 5-3-1 Lesley.
Becker 2, Husson 1
At Bangor, Diralino Debrito scored an unassisted goal to help lead Becker College past Husson College Saturday.
Becker added a second goal when a Husson defender put the ball in his own net. Becker is 7-3.
Josh Bartlett scored an unassisted goal in the 89th minute for 2-7-1 Husson.
Volleyball
Binghamton, UMBC beat Maine
The University of Maine dropped a pair of conference matches over the weekend with four-game losses to the University of Maryland Baltimore County Friday in Baltimore and Binghamton University in Vestal, N.Y., Sunday.
On Sunday, the Bearcats knocked off the Black Bears 30-25, 28-30, 30-23, and 30-22. Lindsey Mueller and Kathleen Schauer led the way for BU.
Mueller had 47 assists, 16 digs, and two service aces while Schauer had 15 kills and 15 total points. Dawn Lammert added nine kills and 12 1/2 points for the 8-12 Bearcats.
For 1-14 Maine, now 0-2 in America East play, Lindsay Allman had 16 kills, 11 digs and 19 1/2 points. Amy Lawson had 15 kills, five digs and 15 1/2 points. Jennifer Domer had 10 kills, five digs and 13 1/2 points. Paige Tortorello led the team with 31 assists while Jessica Wolfenden added five kills, 19 assists and 12 digs.
On Friday, Ashley Oscars led the way in UMBC’s 26-30, 30-28, 30-22, 30-25 victory with 19 kills, 17 digs and 21 total points.
Tiffany Johnson had 11 kills and 14 points while Bridget Scheetz added nine kills and 10 total points for 14-4 UMBC.
Wolfenden again led the Bears in assists with 39, but also added nine kills and 12 digs. Allman had 22 kills, 16 digs and 24 points. Lawson finished with 12 kills and 14 1/2 points while Brittany Kiehl added 11 kills and 13 points. Amanda Armstrong was solid with 10 kills, three assists and 12 points. Tortorello had 23 assists.
